SUMMARY

I am a creative problem-solver with over 11 years of Internet experience who has transitioned from front-end design and development roles to information architecture and interaction design. Comfortable working with teams from all parts of an organization, from SysAdmins to Designers, I also have excellent research and communication skills and can be counted on to finish projects accurately and ahead of schedule. A particular area of expertise is working with many types of content management systems, both commercial and open-source.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Independent Contractor. November 2000 – present

  • Agency contract with Citibank’s Graphic Communications Dept. through Aquent. Update Global Transaction Services website and create client emails with HTML and CSS. Maintain and update Sharepoint intranet site. Select and edit stock images for website and emails that support Citibank branding.
  • Re-designed website for photography studio 3 Chicks that Click in HTML5 and provided style guide. – Summer 2010
  • Created site map and wireframes to communicate new information architecture for brokerage site re-design – Summer 2001

Web Developer. Advance Internet, Inc. November 2004 – February 2009

Advance Internet is a leading creator of local news and information web sites, created in alliance with over 25 newspapers affiliated with Advance Publications Inc.

  • Performed as technical manager for XML Repository program update, coordinating between programmer and newspaper editorial staff.
  • Assisted manager with planning and conducting Proof of Concept testing of Java-based CMS (Escenic Webspeed), a potential content management system for the company, and created test templates in JSP format.
  • Maintained XML repository of news stories, wrote scripts converting documents in diverse formats into XML.

Records Coordinator. American Red Cross September 11 Recovery Program May 2002 – July 2004

Before 9/11/2001, the American Red Cross still relied on a paper-based system for managing client records. The record number of clients (over 60,000 total) for the 9/11 disaster pushed the ARC to move into the digital age.

  • As a critical member of the steering committee for program’s SQL Server/ASP client-tracking application I reviewed requirements, designed user feedback survey for data entry group and documented workflows.
  • Selected outside vendors for file digitization project as a member of an inter-departmental task force
  • Conducted workflow analysis of department procedures
  • Created survey and indexing scheme for documents in client case files, which was used as a reference for file digitization project.

Volunteer and Data Quality Manager.
American Red Cross of Greater New York September 2001 – May 2002

Began as volunteer entering information into missing-persons database and later hired to update new client-tracking database for 9-11 disaster.

  • Trained workers and wrote User Guide for data quality project that audited paper files and financial records for over 2000 clients against database records

User Interface Designer. G.Triad/Computer Horizons Corp., NYC May 2000 – November 2000

  • Performed information and task analysis and wrote corresponding Functional Design document
  • Designed site navigation and page layouts
  • Assisted developers with integration of templates into Cold Fusion code

Jazz Central Station Genre Site, Music Boulevard Network/N2K, NYC Sept. 1997-March 1999

N2K created one of the first major online music shopping sites, Music Boulevard, which was later merged with CDNow. A constellation of content-rich genre sites was linked to Music Boulevard, one of which was Jazz Central Station.

  • Edited and encoded audio and video files into RealMedia formats
  • Managed publication of Jazz Track, daily Web magazine, during restructuring of department

Rothschild Solutions – March 2011 – present

Designing information architecture and graphics for website built in Drupal by local Filemaker developer

Volunteer projects through the Taproot Foundation July 2009 – present

  • Riis Settlement House – Performing both Information Architect and developer responsibilities for new project featuring a flexible website design that will work on many devices.
  • Phipps – developer for website using the Joomla! content management system platform. Wrote training manual and trained staff to maintain website. Website is not yet live due to staff turnover.
  • Out2Play: front-end developer for WordPress site and also some design assistance.
